BULGARIAN ASSOCIATION OF ERGONOMICS AND HUMAN FACTORS (BAEHF) joins Linux Foundation webinar ‘Writing a Formal IT Specification for Publication by ISO' /12. October 2023/

Live Webinar on Writing a Formal IT Specification for Publication by ISO

This presentation outlines a number of considerations involved when creating a formal IT specification that complies with ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2: “Principles and rules for the structure and drafting of ISO and IEC documents” and that factors in ISO’s separate in-house Style Guide. As ISO requires submissions to be formatted using MS Word, familiarity with that software would be good. It would also be useful for attendees to have reviewed the video of Rex’s earlier Webinar, Writing a Formal IT Specification, available here.

View a Complimentary Live Webinar: Antitrust Laws and Open Technology Project Participation
Open source and open standards projects typically bring together employees of multiple companies, many of whom are likely to be competitors. While the result is intended to be a public good, the setting also provides the opportunity for the inadvertent (or deliberate) violation of laws relating to antitrust and competition laws. Since penalties for both individuals and their employers can be severe, it’s important that all those involved in OSS development have an understanding of the rules that apply.

This webinar will discuss:

- What antitrust and competition laws are about and how they apply to open development
- Best practices for safe collaboration
- Activities and collaboration patterns to avoid

Speaker
Andrew Updegrove is a founding partner of Boston-based law firm Gesmer Updegrove LLP. He has represented over 200 open source foundations and standards consortia, including The Linux Foundation (since 2008).

"Census II Of Open Source Software Application Libraries The World Depends On"

Open Source Best Practices

Although Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) has become a critical part of the modern economy, it is difficult to fully understand the health, economic value, and security of FOSS because it is produced in a decentralized and distributed manner, making it unclear how much FOSS, and precisely what FOSS projects, are most widely used. Thus, Linux Foundation Research, in partnership with the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard (LISH) and OpenSSF have conducted research utilizing data on over half a million observations of FOSS libraries used in production applications at thousands of companies. The resulting report, “Census II of Free and Open Source Software – Application Libraries” will be released to coincide with this webinar.

Contains:

1. What are the most widely used FOSS libraries in production applications?
2. High-level findings from the report that are critical to the future health of FOSS.
3. How organizations can utilize the results of this research to enhance their own operations.

Census II of Free and Open Source Software — Application Libraries

Produced in partnership with Harvard Laboratory for Innovation Science (LISH) and the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF), Census II is the second investigation into the widespread use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The Census II effort utilizes data from partner Software Composition Analysis (SCA) companies including Snyk, the Synopsys Cybersecurity Research Center (CyRC), and FOSSA. The aggregated data includes over half a million observations of FOSS libraries used in production applications at thousands of companies, aiming to shed light on the most commonly used FOSS packages at the application library level. This effort builds on the Census I report that focused on the lower level critical operating system libraries and utilities, improving our understanding of the FOSS packages that software applications rely on. Such insights will help identify critical FOSS packages to allow resource prioritization to address security issues in this widely used software.

We kindly invite you to the 34th Summer University of Ergonomics, this time in the virtual space. The program follows the usual Summer University structure: there will be professional lectures on Wednesday, good practices on Friday, and we will go on-site on Thursday - virtually.

The opening sessions dedicated to the EU-OSHA "Lighten the Load" campaign; at the same time, it explores ergonomics beyond the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders.

This year summer university is unique because it's a joint event of the Austrian Ergonomics Society, the Hungarian Ergonomic Society, the Ergonomics & Workplace Management Society [ERGOWORK] from Romania, the Bulgarian Association of Ergonomics and Human Factors. Up to the shared English sessions, there are tracks for each language, i.e. a Bulgarian one on Artificial Intelligence and ergonomics, a Hungarian on Office and sedentary work, Polish on mental workload, Romanian on service ergonomics.

Several universities contribute to this summit university working together in the Ergonomics and Human Factors Regional Educational CEEPUS Network.
